COVID
I heard that one of our schools had 250 students away recently and many many teachers. Clearly, the virus has had an impact on us all and how we operate. I have been particularly grateful to our staff for the way in which they have stepped in and covered classes at short notice. They have done well above what would normally be expected.

As for next term, there are a number of welcome changes:
• Music/Band practise can recommence.
• Drama practise can recommence.
• Excursions can continue.
• Year group assemblies are permitted.
• Non-residential retreats and activity days can take place.
• Interschool sport can recommence.

Students will need to continue wearing masks for the time being. But as you can see, there is a greater sense of normality to what we can do.

One of the great successes this term has been the Inter-house sporting competitions held on campus. The students have engaged enthusiastically in these matches, and I would like to thank Mr Luke O’Neill for his work in this regard.
Mr Steve Bettella has also been creative in ensuring that the Outdoor Education program has continued despite the lack of opportunity to go on camps. Unfortunately, camps are yet to be permitted next term.

Easter
We are Easter people, and this time of year is the most important in the church’s calendar. Whichever faith/tradition our students come from, the message of Easter has meaning for all of us. It is a time of renewal, and it is an invitation for us all to recommit ourselves. There are Easter ceremonies in all the Parishes throughout Easter and perhaps there will be an opportunity for you and your children to participate.

Staff
Mr Dwayne Grace and Ms George Tipene-Grace have accepted an opportunity to work at St Mary’s in Broome for the rest of this year and they will commence there in Term 2. You will be pleased to know they will return in 2023. This is a great opportunity for them and I know that the Broome community will welcome them heartily. I don’t know whether Broome is ready for Rugby Union, but who knows.
