PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Easter

As we enter the Easter break, it gives us time to reflect. During Lent the students have been encouraged to:
• Pray
• Fast
• Donate to the poor

It is interesting to note that our Muslim students have also been making their way through Ramadan, and they, too, have been fasting, praying and donating.

There is so much that is similar between these two great religions.

I would like to take the opportunity to wish you every blessing over Easter, and I hope that you have a nice time with your children.

Staff Departures

I would like to thank Selina Murphy and Casey Vinci who are leaving us, for other teaching positions. We wish them well with their future careers and thank them for their contribution to Aranmore.

I was given the opportunity to interview a student named Ali, who is from Afghanistan and has only been in Western Australia for around 7 months. Ali said he loves many things about Australia, especially the people and how they made him feel so welcome. I had a great time talking to Ali and talking about the experiences he’s had since migrating to Australia.

He is well liked by his students for his his extensive knowledge of his subject and his dedication to their education, and is loved by staff for his kindness, quirky nature and his amazing knowledge of all things music and cars.

Some of Mr Lafferty’s current and past students share their favourite anecdotes of Science with Mr Lafferty:

“When he calls himself a space cadet” - Jude Garbenis

“I love how Mr Lafferty goes out of his way to give us an extra hand or teach us a new concept in the coolest way possible.” - Remy Power

“I always remember being enamored with how excited Mr Lafferty (or Mr LAUGH-FARTY) was about science. Whereas some teachers you didn’t want to get upset because then they would start yelling, In his class you wanted to do the right thing because otherwise he got serious. He was an inspiration to me and a huge influence on who I became as a teacher." - Mr Luke Halden

In Year 8 and 9, Mr Lafferty would always keep a ball in his class l, when we finished the content early we would go out and play tag/ dodge ball. Sir will have the best prizes ranging from chocolates to sodas.”Chelsea Young

“He always asks me about my car” - Cyrine Lahoud

He is a pyromaniac!” - Deacon Ford

“Mr Lafferty was the first person to teach me Human Biology. He made me love it and study it” - Medisa Safavirad

"I like the way he calls me super dude” - Marshall Moulder

"Memories of Mr Lafferty? Where to start? His massive and super helpful revision booklets, how he calls us by our last names. When he calls himself "Mr Laugh-farty", are just a few." - Nia Dias Kelly

"Mr Lafferty has been my science teacher for 2 years and I've had him a little bit for religion. I just wanted to say that he is an amazing teacher. he has taught me more in a subject than any teacher and he really goes out of his way to see his students succeed." - Palace Koia

“Good morning Boys & Berries”
Mr Lafferty (a.k.a Mr Laffi-taffy) makes the boring more interesting. He was always approachable and his quotes have stayed with me forever. I thoroughly enjoyed his human biology classes as a student and to then teach human biology with him was quite an amazing experience. Mr Lafferty has fuelled my lifelong interest in human biology, moreover, his teaching techniques and demeanour have inspired my teaching practice." - Mr Sebastian Eglington
