PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Vietnam

I have recently returned from Vietnam, where we visited families of current students and met others who wished to enrol at the College.

I was particularly taken by one such meeting., when I met with the mother of a student who will start with us next year. This young man had spent two weeks with us for an immersion program where he joined our classes. He is keen to complete his secondary schooling at Aranmore. His mother emphasised to me how much the experience had changed him since returning home. He has become more responsible, and independent, so she has been delighted with the effect upon him.

Staff Farewells

I would like to farewell and thank the following teachers who have worked at the College covering staff leave.

Stephanie Wong
Andrew McLagan
Emily Kahwajian

We wish them all the best for the future.

Mr Declan Tanham
Principal

Year 10 Biodiversity Talk – Murdoch Outreach

Thank you very much to Dr Cindy Palermo, who is currently looking at introduced parasites in fish, for talking to our Year 10 Extension class about biodiversity in Australia and how to protect it.

Our students enjoyed Cindy’s enthusiasm for and knowledge of the subject.  You can read more about Dr Palermo here: https://www.murdoch.edu.au/news/articles/inspiring-girls-to-study-science

Year 11 General Human Biology Pregnancy Wall

This term, the Year 11 General Human Biology class have been looking at pregnancy and foetal development. To consolidate their knowledge, students have been putting the important features on our ‘Pregnancy Wall’, which is a series of photographs beginning at gametes, going through embryonic and foetal development and culminating with birth and breastfeeding. The visual nature of the wall has helped students keep on top of their work.

Good luck Year 12’s

Now that official classes have ended for our Year 12 Scientists, we would like to take this opportunity to wish them all well in whatever comes after Aranmore. Whether they are destined for a career in Science or not, we hope the ability to understand the science present in their everyday lives enables them to be healthy, happy and successful individuals.

Thank you Miss Kahwajian & Mr McLagan

Thank you to Miss Emily Kahwajian for her work this term, filling in for Mr Halden in the Science Department.  Her enthusiasm and dedication to her students will be missed.

Thank you also to Mr McLagan, who took on a Year 8 and 10 Science class at short notice for the last half of this term.  Taking on classes midway through a topic can be difficult; we appreciate the professional way Mr McLagan handled this and the effort he put into ensuring his students learning was not disrupted.
