College Uniform

The wearing of a school uniform is a positive expression of a child’s pride in themselves and the school. It is an integral part of being a student at Aranmore Catholic College, it promotes a sense of belonging to a group and promotes loyalty to the school. Our uniform and grooming policy can be found on the College website.

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of students wearing Physical Education uniform when they should be in academic uniform, notes from parents/guardians for non-valid reasons e.g. (uniform is wet) and students not wearing the uniform in full e.g., incorrect socks.

We ask all students to arrive at school wearing the correct uniform and that parents support the College in ensuring their child is dressed and groomed correctly when they leave home each day.

Dean of Students

The card game Organ Attack has been a favourite with the students as they work to protect their own organs while attacking those of their peers and simultaneoulsy developing their medical and anatomical terminology.

Year 7 and 8 ACE students went to the School of Biological Science at UWA where they attended a university information session, campus tour, guide through a biology research lab and experimental greenhouses, then ended with two mini lectures.

Our sincerest thank you to Dr Skrzypek who kindly invited us to come and learn about a small portion of the extensive research being undertaken. What was most impressive was the wide-reaching applications the research has for various environments and societies across the globe. Thank you, Miss Zanlongo, Dr Skrzypek, the lovely UWA student ambassadors, and Mr O'Brien for making this experience possible.

Our Year 10s have been studying with the following educational providers: Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Adelaide, Allison, MIT and Yale.

Their courses are varied and individually specific. Some of the courses included: Greek and Roman Mythology, Agricultural Technology and Plant Biotech, Building Personal Resilience, Becoming an Entrepreneur, Bioethics and the Opioid Crisis, Introduction to Bioengineering, online businesses for Residual Income, Criminal Psychology and the Fundamentals of Neuroscience among many others.

Many students have completed their first course, and having passed the assessments, they qualify for certificates of successful completion.

I congratulate the students on their endeavours.

Netball News

During Week 4, 22 athletes travelled down to the South-West region for a challenging yet rewarding experience on the annual Junior Netball Tour.  The tour begun with a specialist netball training session delivered by Netball WA at the GOLD Netball Centre and an opportunity for good quality match play amongst our group before we embarked on our journey south.

Over the three days on tour, players experienced team building sessions, recovery activities, early morning beach fitness and very successful match play against St Mary MacKillop College in Busselton. To witness all the players working together as a team and putting skills learnt on show was incredibly rewarding.

Whilst on tour, our players are given an insight to the commitment required to take their netball to the next level, including an emphasis on both the physical and mental aspects of the sport. We ensured the girls had ample time to goals set, reflect and evaluate their performances, teaching them the importance of these highly valuable skills.

In between the hard work, we also took the opportunity to explore the beautiful South-West with a visit to the Margaret River Chocolate Factory – a tour favourite, the Yallingup Maze – who knew getting lost could be so fun, and the Busselton Jetty foreshore.

To the 2023 Junior Tour group, we hope you learnt new things, made long-lasting memories, formed new friendships and had plenty of fun. The way you represented yourselves, the Netball Program and Aranmore should be highly commended. Well done!

Year 10 Psych students visited Murdoch University to compliment the forensic psychology topic we have been covering this semester. Students attended workshops on offender profiling and serial killers, visited the Esports Gaming Hub, and participated in a mock trial.

On Tuesday (7.11.23) Jason ran a follow-up lesson with the class at school. Thank you Mr O'Brien for driving us and for Jason Dohle at Murdoch University for running our workshops.

Dr Tilbury’s last Chemistry lesson

It was the end of an era as Dr Tilbury took his last Chemistry lesson at Aranmore.  Students and teachers formed a guard of honour as he left the classroom.  During his time here, Dr Tilbury has taught hundreds if not thousands of students, including Mr Eglington and Mr O’Loughlan.  Luckily Dr Tilbury will be with us for a couple more weeks to see the Year 11’s through to the end of the exam period.
