PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Athletics Carnival

You will no doubt be aware that we held our Athletics Carnival on Monday, and it was a miserable day, cold and wet.

You should be very proud of your young people who participated in the Carnival. I was there all day, and I didn’t hear any student whingeing, moaning or complaining, despite the unpleasant conditions. The students competed, had fun, ran for their houses and had a go. Often in the rain.

I was really impressed with their attitude and enthusiasm during the day. They remained positive and had a smile on their faces. A big well done to them!

Thank You From Breakfast Club

A huge shout out to the Aranmore Catholic College Community for their very generous contribution of Milo to our breaky range. Our students are very appreciative of the inclusion of Milo in their morning routine; it is a firm favourite for many. And this couldn't occur without your support.

What a great community!

With thanks,
Aranmore Breakfast Club

Perkins Institute – Year 12 Human Biology

Our Year 12 Human Biology class recently spent a day at the Perkins Institute BioDiscovery Centre. At the Institute, students spent the day conducting their own polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and then running a gel electrophoresis using actual human DNA of cancer patients with the aim of comparing it with those who do not have cancer.  This was a great opportunity for students to gain practical experience in techniques they had only covered in theory.

Specialist Music Program News

The Aranmore Rock Band performed at Corpus Christi College last Thursday as part of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival and did extremely well.

The Rock Band director James Sewell, who also teaches saxophone at the College and is an extremely talented and well-respected musician (across multiple instruments), arranger, composer and front man to many music groups in Perth, kindly wrote this blurb on the band and students in it:

‘This year’s performance by the Aranmore Catholic College Rock Band at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival was a real labour of love. Unprecedented times once again hit the ensemble hard, as we weren’t even able to begin rehearsing until Term 2. With these circumstances in mind, being ready to perform at all, let alone putting on a performance of this calibre, is next to miraculous. All of the students involved should be very proud of their commitment and hard work.
The adjudicator shared this enthusiastic view of the ACC Rock Band, praising their groove and cohesion as an ensemble, and the arrangements of the songs, all of which were chosen by students in the band.

This year’s performance was something of a bittersweet one, as it marks the last CPAF for Zai, Ellen, Sota and Anthony, some of whom have been with the band since Year 7! They’ve all played a huge part in making the band what it is today, and we wish them all the best as they prepare to sit their ATAR exams.’ - James Sewell, Rock Band Director

Thanks James for all of your time and hard work, and a massive well done to the kids.

Specialist Netball Program News

Congratulations to our Open Boys Netball team who won their semi-finals against Willetton SHS and then defeated Governor Stirling by 7 goals to become the High Schools Cup Open Champions for 2022!

During the comp, the boys were challenged by some physical contests but managed to keep their focus and push past the distractions. Notable mentions to Ethan Saliacus and Tyson Farnan who were instrumental in leading the team, maintaining possession and taking responsibility for getting the job done - they were outstanding! Many of the boys in this group have been together for three years and have progressed closer and closer each year to the Grand Final - this win is a great reward for their commitment and effort! Well done to our Open Boys team and to their coach, Ms Charlize Underwood.
