Society & Environment
The Society and Environment learning area, with its focus on civic responsibility and social competence, has a unique place in the school curriculum. Its basic aim is to give individual students the ability to make reasoned and informed decisions as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world.
The Society and Environment Learning Area is important for students in that it develops a sense of their social world and their place in it, their respect for their own cultural heritage and that of others. It develops respect for the rights of other people and a commitment to uphold the values of social justice, democratic process and ecological sustainability. Furthermore, it fosters their capacity to contribute to the quality of life on the earth, now and in the future.
At Aranmore Catholic College we acknowledge that our students are operating in a rapidly changing world. The Society and Environment Learning Area therefore equips our youth with the knowledge, skills and values needed to become more autonomous, purposeful, tolerant and involved members of the Australian and global society.
