English
Our students learn to communicate through reading, writing, viewing, speaking and listening. By using a variety of engaging texts that are reviewed and updated on an annual basis, we hope to enable students to develop sound levels of literacy. Grammar is still an integral part of our approach, particularly in Years Eight to Ten.
In Years Eight to Ten, Curriculum Framework has been implemented and students are marked in outcomes rather than grades.
All students keep an assessment folio which enables their progress to be mapped. Students are encouraged to read through the Library reading programs we have at the College.
Some of the texts being studied this year in Year Eight are Blueback and Holes. In Year Nine, students study Tomorrow When the War Began and the autobiography by Boori Pryor, Maybe Tomorrow.
The texts being studied In Year Ten include Of Mice and Men and Looking for Alibrandi. A variety of films, both fiction and documentary, are also studied.
In Senior School, students have a choice of two courses of English:
- English Literature
- English Course of Studies at Stages One, Two or Three.
In these subjects, students are able to develop their understanding of both fiction and non-fiction texts, in print and non-print form. These texts are also updated on a regular basis.
