Library
The JF Moloney Library plays a very central part in the daily lives of the students and staff at Aranmore.
During the course of the year, many students use the library during class time for research. In Year Eight all students are taught study skills in Information Technology. In this course students learn how to use a library,
become familiar with the library catalogue system, and are given reminders on how to take notes, write research papers and complete a Bibliography. They also become familiar with programs on the library computers,
Microsoft Office and the Internet.
In Years Nine, Ten, Eleven and Twelve, students are required to complete research assignments in specific subject areas. The students in these years are taught additional information skills depending on teacher requests.
Apart from the research program there is a recreational reading program in Years Eight and Nine, in which students are booked into the reading area. During this time they are introduced to a number of books that they may enjoy reading,
including fiction and non-fiction.
Many students use the library for recreational purposes before school, lunchtime and after school. Students can be seen reading newspapers, books, magazines, playing games, doing research or just surfing the net.
Students arrive early in the morning to study, research, play chess or read before form. Lunch times are very busy with lots of interaction and with all resources being used.
