Learning Support
The Learning Support Department at Aranmore Catholic College, is concerned with remediation, differentiation and extension, which operates out of the Careers and Transition Training Centre (CATT). The goal of the department is to provide and promote a service to students to help in the areas of literacy and numeracy as well as extension where possible. This is achieved through individual and/or small group remediation for years 8-12 students. Programmes are designed around specific areas/needs of each student. Core Curriculum is also differentiated according to the needs of the student, enabling them to access the curriculum and achieve to their true potential. The centre caters for students who have been identified as having a learning disability/difficulty or are gifted and talented.
Learning Support staff work collegially with class teachers and Heads of Department to insure that each students Access Plan addresses the students individual needs and takes into account the requirements and adjustments necessary to access the mainstream curriculum. All Staff aim to be innovative in providing consistent, relevant support to students within a flexible structure. All Staff in the Learning Support Area are dedicated to maximising the personal dignity and self worth of each student and ensuring that they are provided with every tool necessary to achieve to their maximum potential.
We also rely on volunteer mentors who visit the school and spend time helping students with literacy and numeracy skills as well as learning assistance in some subject areas. Outside agencies such as Therapy focus and Youth Pathways are also utilised at Aranmore Catholic College.
