Career and Transition Training Centre (CATT)
Career development at a national level has become a priority. The Australian Blueprint for Career Development has provided a mapping tool to ensure all Australians, young and old, look at lifelong learning, managing change and career planning.
Industry was asked to define what skills they, as employers, identified. Here are some of the employability skills they focused on:
- Communication and team work
- Problem Solving
- Self Management
- Planning and Organising
- Use of Technology
- Initiative
- Enterprise.
Aranmore's Careers Service provides opportunities for students to develop and practice these employability skills. We have work experience for Years Ten to Twelve and Structured Workplace Learning (OnSite Program). We also offer School Based Traineeships and School Apprenticeship Link. The students also have the opportunity to participate in a number of Vocational Education and Training Certificates (VET) while still at school.
Students are encouraged to take every opportunity given to them to broaden their skills base. One such opportunity was a one week course delivered at school by a qualified bricklayer on behalf of ABBTF and TAFE. Students undertook to build a brick seat in the Year 10 eating area and had the opportunity to learn all about the bricklaying trade.
Student Portfolios
All students in years 8 -12 are encouraged to obtain a Portfolio. They are also encouraged to keep all reports from Year 9 onwards, all awards and certificates. In year 10 students will type a resume and be shown how to produce a top quality portfolio. These portfolios will be needed by the students applying for OnSite and should be kept by the student as it will be needed for application into apprenticeships, traineeships, university, for scholarship applications and if they are interested in participating in an exchange programe.
Individual career coaching is also available upon request, as well as assistance with Resume preparation.
