Principal’s Message
Over the past four years the process of implementing the Strategic Plan (2003-2008) has been undertaken. Much has been achieved through this plan.
The most significant achievement so far has been the appointment of a Chaplain to the College for 2007. We have been delighted to have Fra Oscar Aguilera, a Servite Priest, join us at Aranmore. Along with this appointment we were successful in gaining Federal Government funding for the Chaplaincy Program, amounting to $66,000 over three years.
Another major achievement is the development of a Capital Development Plan which has resulted in the approval of a Building Project which will be completed in 2009. The Capital Development Plan will be completed over several years and includes the building of a gymnasium.
Flowing from the Strategic Plan and the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Program, has been a partnership with Edith Cowan University over the past three years called the “Supportive Schools Project”. Much work in reviewing procedures, and feedback from students, has resulted in a focus on making students feel that they are in a safe and secure environment while at the College. Part of this focus is the promotion of an environment where bullying is not tolerated, and should be reported to someone so that action can be taken. In addition, students in Years 8 and 9 have been taught strategies they can use to respond to bullying or to respond as an observer of bullying. All of this fits snugly into our approach to the Pastoral Care of all students in the College.
I am excited by the prospect of these and other activities which will continue to enhance the growth and development of the College.
