College Chaplain
At Aranmore, we are blessed with the presence and services of our beloved Fra Oscar M. Aguilera, osm as our Chaplain. The “fra” is short for friar and osm stands for “Order of the Servants of Mary”.
Coming from a religious order, fra Oscar comes to us with a long standing tradition that extends over 750 years. Fra Oscar is always available to members of our Faith community, be it members of staff, students and their families in variety of pastoral and sacramental roles.
The Eucharist is celebrated with the entire College community at the beginning of the year and during the feast of Founders Day. Towards the end of the academic year each year level celebrates a final Eucharist. The Year 8 and 9 celebrate their final Eucharist together.
Year 12 students finish their academic year with a Eucharist on the final day of formal classes and a Farewell Assembly. The highlight is a presentation of an act from all the different years to farewell the “Leaving Class” and a song by the leaving class.
There is a School Community Eucharist each Friday at 8:00 am open for students, staff and parents. The Year 12 participate at a Parish Eucharist, celebrated at Saint Mary’s Church every Wednesday morning with the faithful of the parish so there is continuity between Eucharist and the faith community.
Individual classes may celebrate the Eucharist from time to time by arrangement between the R.E. teacher and the Chaplain.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to all classes at different times though out the year. Especially for the Year 12, this starts at the Retreat and it ends towards the end of the year.
There are always students at Aranmore who wish to proceed with the reception of Sacraments. Fra Oscar, together with the Campus Minister, offer courses of instruction by way of preparation for Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.
